Music Archive Home | Other Composers | New Scores | Revised Scores
The Sheet Music Archive is part of the Werner Icking Music Archive
archive. It contains ready-to-print sheet music, most in the form of PDF files (indicated by the icon
). A few scores are only available in compressed Postscript format (indicated by the icon
).
The main index is the list of composer names on the homepage. Each name is linked to a separate page listing and linking to that composer's available works. On the composer's page, clicking on his name (printed in Bold) will lead to a navigable file listing of the directory. This would not normally be necessary, but it would enable you to see the size of the files before downloading, and would occasionally give access to supplemental files not mentioned in the composer's page, e.g. brief README files concerning the composer or composition.
Most links to scores in the composer's page are followed by the icon
. If you click on that
icon usually the first page of the score containing music is
shown as a graphic image. For some browsers this is done in a new window
which is reused for the next image. The resolution of these images is always
inferior to that of the PDF and Postscript files; they are only for quick
viewing and are not meant for printing.

other sound files.
For most works the email address of the composer or editor is given. Use this address for any feedback, praise, criticism, blame, etc., and to inquire regarding permission for public performance of the modern works.
The archive contains "free" sheet music, free for non-commercial usage. This means that you may download the files and print paper copies, but neither the files nor the paper copies may be sold. You are not allowed to distribute digital copies of these editions to other web archives, either in the existing format or any other derived format without the explicit consent of the Icking Archive editors. The right to print the music does not automatically imply the right for public performance; that right is regulated by applicable copyright legislation. Such legislation holds that the copyright on the music itself remains in force until 70 years after the composer's death
If you want to contribute to the archive then please use WIMA's ftp service, ftp.daimi.au.dk for uploading your files. Enter anonymous as username and your email address as password. Select wima as the folder for uploading your files. Don't forget to send an email about your contribution to Christian Mondrup.
PDF is the primary format of ready-for-print sheet music on the archive, see the PDF instructions for users of TeX based tools like MusiXTeX, PMX, M-Tx etc. and for users of graphical sheet music editors like Finale, Sibelius, NoteWorthy Composer etc. Contributors are encouraged to upload their source files used for typesetting along with the final score in which case the source will be made available to web guests, but that is definitely not a requirement for contributing to the archive.
PDF files can be displayed on screen and sent to printer by means of the freeware program from Adobe, Adobe Acrobat Reader . Postscript files must be uncompressed for printing using GZIP unless you'e using newer versions of Ghostscript, Ghostview & GSview. There is an easy-to-install Windows/NT-version consisting of Ghostscript and GSview on our server.
