Old-feta, feta fonts for MusiXTeX Mats Bengtsson, mats.bengtsson@s3.kth.se Christian Mondrup, reccmo@icking-music-archive.org 1. DESCRIPTION Old-feta is a 'frozen' version of the GNU Lilypond feta fonts adapted for MusiXTeX. Their primary purpose is to provide mensural notation symbols. This package provides type 3 and type 1 fonts (PFB format), dvips and dvipdfm map files for the type 1 fonts and a collection of TeX macros making use of the old-feta fonts for inserting mensural notation symbols into a MusiXTeX source file. 2. INSTALLATION The old-feta fonts are to be installed along the same guidelines as the core MusiXTeX fonts. 1) Make a directory such as $TEXMF/fonts/source/public/old-feta for the type 3 fonts and copy the files from the ./mf directory to there; they should be readable by all users. 2) Make a directory such as $TEXMF/fonts/type1/old-feta, for the type 1 fonts and copy the files from the ./pfb directory to there; they should be readable by all users. 3) Copy the map file ./dvips/old-feta.map to the appropriate directory, such as $TEXMF/dvips/config. 4) Add a line p +old-feta.map to a suitable config.xxx file or, in a tetex-based distribution, add old-feta.map to the list of map files for Type1 fonts with Metafont equivalents in the updmap script, which should then be executed by doing "./updmap". Generally there are no visual advantages with using type 1 fonts for postscript output compared to using type 3 fonts. If, however, for some reason you might want to generate postscript output based on type 1 fonts you might want to create a dvips configuration file $TEXMF/dvips/config/config.type1 containing lines like p +musix.map p +old-feta.map p +psfonts.map ... Then by saying 'dvips foo.dvi -Ptype1 -o foo.ps' the postcript generated will be based on type 1 fonts. 5) Copy the map file ./dvipdfm/old-feta.map to the appropriate directory, such as $TEXMF/dvipdfm/config 6) Add a line f old-feta.map to the config file. 7) Copy the macro file mensural.tex to an appropriate directory, such as $TEXMF/tex/generic/mensural 8) Do mktexlsr or texhash or whatever is necessary on your system to re-generate the TeX database. When these fonts are used, type 1 fonts should also be used for non-music text; for example, type 1 versions of the Computer Modern fonts are available.
