German composer. Already in his young days Carl Reinicke was considered a great talent. Initially self-taught he got later a professional education and worked in Bremen, Paris, Köln, Breslau and Barmen.
From 1860 until 1895 Carl Reinicke was musical director in Gewandhaus, Leipzig and also taught piano and composition there until 1902.
Carl Reinicke was considered a sober-minded and impartial personality committing himself particularily to young musicians. As a composer the classicals were his ideals. His list of compositions is extensive comprising four operas, an oratorio, masses, various works for orchestra and choir, symphonies, four piano concertos and a great number of vocal and chamber music works.
