Guillaume Lasceux (1740-1831)

Guillaume Lasceux was born in Poissy, February 3 1740. He studied organ playing and composition in Paris with Charles Noblet. He was organist at the organ of Saint-Etienne du Mont until 1819. He was equally active in various other music scenes in Paris: les Mathurins, Sainte Anne, les Minimes place Royale, le Collège de Navarre... He died in Paris in 1831.

Guillaume Lasceux left an abundant amount of compositions: vocal works, chamber music, and not the least, from 1772 until 1810 a vast amount of compositions for organ. He is considered a witness of and a theorist on the musical style of his era; sometimes inspired by Méhul, Beauvarlet-Charpentier, Séjan, Haydn. He attempted to maintain and promote that musical style during the first decades of the 19th century
